The Lego Education Centre is another must visit for Lego fans. Every school holidays they run workshops for kids from age 4. They are age appropriate - younger kids use Duplo, older kids use Lego, and even Lego Mindstorm robots.
Workshops are 45 minutes long, cost $12 and parents have to leave (yep time to grab a coffee in peace!). You have to book by phone, but don't pay until you attend.
Henry has been to a couple of these workshops, and is very excited to be going to the Movie Fun - Harry Potter magic one tomorrow (combining his two favourite things!). They get to build Harry Potter movie sets then use a Lego camera to film them and produce their own movie!
They also run 'Sunday Fundays' where $5 gets a child and accompanying adult 45 minutes of building time. Each Sunday has a different theme eg. Space Odyssey, Mad Machines. Bookings aren't required for these and an adult must stay. Check the website for more details.
And yes they also offer Lego birthday parties on Saturdays for 10 to 15 kids at $15 per child. You can't take food into the Lego Centre but it's right by South Bank so would be easy to have food and cake there before or after Lego building fun.

Colmslie Beach Reserve
This is a great park that borders the Brisbane River near Murarrie (sort of between the Gateway Bridge and Bulimba). We've been twice with kids of all ages, and all agree it's fantastic! Both times it's been surprisingly quiet, maybe because you have to drive to it and it's not in a residential area.
The playground is semi fenced and away from a main road which is great for toddlers like CJ who run fast! There's a flying fox, swings, musical boat, slides, cool sea themed play sculptures, a little obstacle course, bumpy concrete path for fun bike and scooter riding and lots of space for running around.
Lots of lovely big trees provide good shade over a lot of the park, and there are toilets and BBQs. It's not close to any shops so take your own food and drinks.
